A blank canvas, a “wish list”, and a tight budget are what we were given in this lower level remodel.
A custom bar, a pool table gaming area, a bathroom, a workout room, a fireplace, a TV viewing area, a bedroom, and most importantly making it feel like an extension of the upstairs is what our customer requested.
Maximum ceiling height was very important, so we decreased the height of the existing ductwork and masked it in a “tray” ceiling and relocated the few water lines and gas pipe.
The creative use of arches and wide columns concealed the beams without incurring the added cost of relocating them. Removal of the tunnel and opening the staircase was mandatory to obtain the feel that was desired.
A custom maple bar was construed on site and matched the upstairs woodwork in wood species, style and color. We matched the base trim, casing, door style, drywall texture, fireplace fascia, and bull nose corners to the main level as well. The bar had elegant granite tops, a mirrored back bar with bottle shelving, and under mount sink, and plumbing for a dishwasher. Ceramic tile was installed on the floor surrounding the bar area and in the bathroom.
A built in pool cue alcove was constructed and installed in the billiards parlor, along with a niche for the homeowners “dogs playing pool” artwork.
A gas direct vent fireplace was installed with a fascia that matched the upstairs fireplace. Coaxial cable was installed for multiple TV’s throughout the lower level for football Sundays.
We constructed a custom vanity, with a granite top, and under mount sink in the bathroom. The walk in shower was also tiled with a decorative listello border, and a shampoo alcove was inserted to maximize the space.
The use of glass “French Style” doors was used to allow natural light to enter the workout room and full length mirrors were installed to make the room seem larger.
The use of recessed canister lighting, xenon lighting, pendant lighting and the hanging billiard light is what was used to accent the masterpiece created in this lower level.
